Q: I am considering the icomfort revolution but keep hearing that memory foam traps heat and that recovery time for the foam is a problem. I have had 2 unsuccessful experiences w coil mattresses being too firm. I seek comfort as well as support.

*Additional information - The two mattresses tried were the Beautyrest Black Extra Firm and the Beautyrest Black Plush Firm

- Toby Brooks

A:

Hi Toby,

The facts and statistics about memory foam sleepers versus claims that memory foam mattresses sleep hot are widely opposite.  Memory foam mattresses are selling in the multi-millions nationwide and only a small percentage of sleepers experience discomfort from sleeping hotter.  For those who sleep hot already, a memory foam mattress will not inflame the problem but not solve it.  As you get better sleep from a memory foam mattress, there is achance you will sleep warmer until your body can adjust to deep, restful sleep.  Pressure relief improves your body's circulation and with good circulation, your body will need to toss and turn less.

Mattresses should not necessarily need to be easy to move around or toss and turn on if you intend to sleep soundly with out moving around all night.  Slower responding memory foam is generally just Tempur-Pedic Contour models or Tempur-Pedic HD models.  The rest in the memory foam type like Simmons Comfor-Pedics and Serta iComfort, and Tempur-Pedic Cloud beds all respond quickly.  If recovery time is an issue, the iComfort are the right kind of memory foam mattress for you.

The two Beautyrest Black models you have tried are not recommended for most side sleepers.  A Plush or ideally a Plush Pillow Top in the Beautyrest Black line are what is recommended for better side sleeping.  The iComfort Revolution bed is a great match since it is right in the middle of firm and soft so you and your husband can sleep great.  I would at least give it 2-3 months of trying it before you decide to return/exchange as memory foam models can take some adjusting to.

Q: We have a king split craftmatic adjustable bed. Need new mattresses that can be twin XL. A mattress that addresses severe back pain. What do you recommend?
- Connie Jeffries

A: Hi Connie, The best mattresses for adjustable bases like your Craftmatic are the foam beds. They form to the adjustable bases and to the sleeper on the mattress. The foam beds we recommend are Serta iComfort, Simmons Comfor-Pedic, and Tempur-Pedic. The two mattresses paired can range from $1400 and up depending on which mattress you choose. There are two really popular beds I will list below to try: Serta iComfort Revolution http://www.sdmattress.com/store/index.php?prodid=1555 Tempur-Pedic Cloud Supreme http://sdmattress.com/store/index.php?prodid=1230 These have a ton of positive reviews from our own customers and on many forums online. They are both medium in feel, not the softest and not the firmest of the bunch. If you try these and don't like them, we can always make another recommendation based off your feedback. Let us know your zip code if you want to try these locally in your area.

Q: We are debating between a Simons Beautyrest World Class mattress and a Simons Beautyrest Elite mattress. We think we like the World Class mattress better but we hear they are being discontinued. Do you carry both mattresses? How do the World Class matsresses compare to the Elite mattress? Are they replacing World Class with something better or just dropping the line? Thanks, Walt
- Walt O'Brien

A: Hi Walt, The World Class line is soon coming to an end. It's been around for about 10-15 years but Simmons has created the TruEnergy to take it's place. World Class beds will still be available for another month or two until Simmons runs out of the fabrics in stock. Compared to Elite Beautyrests, World Class models are firmer and have more coils. The TruEnergy beds that replace Beautyrest World Class have the same coils as Elite mattresses and upgraded memory foam layers with gel. EuroCool foam is a new type of gel foam that has very high marks from the foam manufacturers. In short, you may be able to find World Class beds for about the same price as Elites since they are on close out. This is the month to bargain shop! Memorial day will have a lot sales events.

Q: Would love to know from a expert is stearns and foster worth the money i am looking at the golden elegance series what simmons beauty rest black would match it or be better and what is the top of the line for the beautyrest black series what would be the price? We are looking at a king size mattress and looking for a eurotop plus or somewhere in the middle scale like a 5 or 6 and as for beautyrest i dont know the name just wondering what black series would be close or better then the golden one from stearns and foster
- Chad G

A: Hi Chad, In terms of official ratings, Consumer Reports and Sleeplikethedead.com both rate Simmons higher in the owner satisfaction category. Simmons uses unique pocketed coils in the Beautyrest Black line and are the leading pocketed coil designs used in beds today. The triple wound cable coil has over 12 feet of wire along with the smart pocketed coil which helps reduce pressure. There are two comparable mattresses to the comfort level you are shopping in. One is the Beautyrest Black Ansleigh Plush which retails for $2,199 king set. There is also the the Beautyrest Black Ella Plush which has more memory foam in the upholstery and it retails for $2,799. The Beautyrest Black beds feature some great memory foam layers that rate highly from www.sleeplikethedead.com. Q: My wife and I are looking for a new mattress. A few years ago, we purchased a Sealy firm pillowtop(cost around 1200.00) It was too hard and I am a side sleeper. needless to say, I have had hip, shoulder and back pain ever since. My wife likes more firm, I like more plush. We found a Simmons Beautyrest Garber pillowtop that is a display bed. Half of it is firm, half of it is plush. Seems perfect and it is priced at 700.00. What is your expert opinion about this bed? Is the Garber a quality bed? Will it last more than a few years? Are there problems with purchasing this type of bed, that is split in firmness? There is no warranty offered with this bed. Thanks for your time and consideration, Allen
- Allen Bell

A: Hi Allen, There is nothing wrong with the dual sided beds. One retailer actually sells them with warranty dual sided called his or her sided mattresses. The one you are considering was likely on display which is why there is no warranty attached. For the $700 value, if you got 5-7 years out of it at least, it would be a good deal. Especially if you and your wife like polar opposite comfort levels. If you were to go with a brand new mattress instead, I would recommend some of foam mattress that relieves more pressure in firmer comfort levels.

Q: May 2012, I recently stayed at a luxury hotel in Delaware, slept on a Simmons Beautyrest Black Beverly Hills Plush. I live in PA and have been web searching this mattress and cannot find this model anywhere, is there a comparable model out there?
- Diane Mellott

A: Hi Diane, The Beverly Hills is a model from the Beautyrest Black line that nobody has an exact equivalent of these days. The closest you will be able to find at a mattress store is called the Simmons Beautyrest Black Brooklyn Plush Pillow Top on our website at http://sdmattress.com/store/index.php?prodid=1600. This mattress at other retailers may be the same name or something different. You can pull up a list of Beautyrest Black retailers on the www.simmons.com website by entering your zip code in the upper right. Q: We purchased a kameryn firm mattress about 3 weeks ago and are very unhappy with it. Is this different from the tight top model? This one feels lumpy and doesn't give as much support as we had expected
- Toby Brookes

A: Hi Toby, The Kamryn Tight Top model at Macy's is softer. It uses softer Smart Coils in the mattress. I recommend at least 2-3 weeks of sleeping on the mattress before deciding to exchange it for another. If you end up not liking it, try a memory foam mattress with the flat, even tops to them. They will not produce a lumpy feel like you describe which is the way a traditionally quilted mattress feels with tufting. If you can visibly see lumps or something wrong with the upholstery, then you can get warranty coverage from Simmons to replace the mattress.

Q: Is there an equivalent mattress to the Simmons Beautyrest Felicity 650 plush super pillow top that an individual can purchase. I believe the 650 is only available for purchase by hotels and resorts.
- Pat Anderson

A: Hi Pat, The Beautyrest Felecity 650 model is, like you mentioned, only made for resorts and hotels. You can get it with out paying the huge mark up on their exclusivity. I recommend heading locally to a Beautyrest retailer to try a Simmons Beautyrest Elite Plush Pillwtop. The Elite Plush Pillowtop will have nearly the same amount of coils and foam layers as the Felicity model. You can select slightly firmer or softer as well once you have tried the Elite Plush Pillowtop. Here is a link to that exact model on our website - http://sdmattress.com/store/index.php?prodid=1487. You can pull up a list of local retailers by entering your zip code on the www.Simmons.com website. Try it out and let us know what you think!

Q: My wife and I have been shopping for mattresses for a couple weeks and are still a bit confused. She is a stomach sleeper and I am a side sleeper but we are both big and tall people so a firm bed is a must. I think we have narrowed it down to the Simmons Beautyrest Black Kameryn at Macy's and the Simmons Beautyrest Abrianna at Raymour and Flannigan. Looking at the descriptions they seem very similar. First, can you tell me if there are the same and second do you have anything comparable? We are looking for a King. Thanks!
- Alan S

A: Hi Alan, Thanks for your question. The Abriana Beautyrest Black mattress is an Extra Firm from the Simmons Beautyrest Black national line. It is firmer and less thick than the Kamryn Firm you saw at Macy's. The Kamryn Firm is actually a Plush Firm comfort level(a little confusing and misleading). At Macy's, there should be a model called Rita Extra Firm which is identical to the Abrianna at Raymour Flannigan. The Kamryn is equivalent to the Ansleigh Plush Firm at Raymour Flannigan. If you would like to compare prices, we also carry the Ansleigh Plush Firm model in our Beautyrest Black catalog. Call us toll free at 866-799-0048 and hear our current specials.

Q: Hi Andrew and thanks for the response. As it turns out, the mattress appeared to have been mislabeled and R and F delivered another one. But there's another problem I'd like you to shed some light on. One of the corner's on the mattress now squeaks when I sit on and bounce on it. I read online that you have to start from the bottom up so I put the mattress on the floor to see if it squeaked in the same spot and it didn't. I also rotated the mattress diagonally and it seems to be in the same corner and could be a "high point" on the box spring. Any ideas as to the squeak? A technician is coming out next week to review and hopefully fix the problem. It's been frustrating as I spent a lot of money. -Andrea p.s. I slept pretty good on the mattress last night. Is the Beautyrest Elite, Waterfront Plush a pretty good quality mattress? It has the inner springs and I've heard some negative things about them. pps. I formerly slept on a Kingsdown.
- Andrea Kurec

A: Hi Andrea, I would like to commend you on your thorough investigation of the squeak! You can isolate the mattress by putting just it on the floor and testing the same corners against the support of the floor. If there is no squeak, then it's the box spring and you should be able to get that replaced by your retailer. I'm glad to hear the bed was mislabeled. That does not happen very often though producing a couple hundred beds a day, there is a slight room for error. The mattress you purchased is a great bed. If you feel like you get a good night's sleep, I wouldn't recommend restarting the process solely based on online reviews. There is a lower owner satisfaction rating on the innerspring but Simmons is rated one of the highest in it's bracket. Not everybody with an innerspring mattress hates their bed or has problems/issues with it and we have many happy owner's that have purchased from us over the last ten years we have been in business.
