Comfortaire and Sleep Number (Select Comfort) are the top brands in the air mattress category, with Comfortaire ranking higher in most online reviews for satisfaction and BBB ratings. The main benefit of air mattresses is that it gives you the ability to adjust the firmness of the air chambers to allow you to make the mattress softer of firmer. Air Mattresses are designed with several components including the air chambers, foam railings for edge support, foam layers on top of the air chambers, fabric cover, hoses, air pumps, and remote controls.
Some people require the function of adjusting the firmness, especially with couples that completely disagree on firmness preferences. However, others do not like the feeling of the air core. Common problems with air mattresses are the maintenance or replacement of the components when they malfunction, weaker support feeling from the foam rails, and Select Comfort used to have some problems with mold developing around the air bladders and hoses from condensation. On the other hand, after years of use often times all you may need to do is replace one component to feel like you have a new mattress.
Air mattress brands will feature several models usually starting at the $999 price point for an 8” or 9” thick mattress that doesn’t have much upholstery on top of the air chambers. Best selling air mattress models are generally in the $1899-$2599 price ranges. The top of the line models can get up over $3000. Top recommended model the IC 900 by Comfortaire. This model features more sleeping surface, a quieter faster air pump, omilon and synthetic soy based latex, and an antimicrobial Bamboo cover. This model is 5 stars across the board.
